Lucas is getting in trouble at school- said shut up!
I had a fun evening hanging out with my dear old mama and eating pizza, catching up on stuff. I know she really came over to see my boy, but as he goes to sleep around 700 she was stuck with me afterwards :) She stayed until about 830 and then went home. She rarely gets to see Lukey due to his hectic schedule of school and therapy so she was missing him. We are attending a festival at school tomorrow- I am looking forward to it- it will be fun. Jan and Emma are also joining us so that always makes for an interesting trip :)
Lukey is feeling much better and recovering from his bladder infection- boy that was an evil little thing- don't ever want to see that side of my child again- ugh.............. what a long week it was. So glad he is better and eating more- he is back to his old self. He whined all during therapy after school today- he was not in the mood at all :( Oh well TGIF........... for all of us!

Lukey the jumpin man!!!

Lucas spent the weekend with his dad and they went to the mall to do the bungee jump ride on the trampolines and he loved it! His dad said that they blocked off the jump attraction just for Lucas so they could give him extra 1:1 time and help him fly high- you can see in one picture how high he went- did not scare him at all- he loved it- such a big boy! Better day today.............

OK I admit it...... I am a great mommy
So glad I did- he put him on an antibiotic to get rid of the bladder infection and he wants to do an ultrasound of his kidneys and bladder to ensure all is working properly. I wanted to tell him that I believe it is all working properly because he wakes up with wet PJ's and sheets every morning :) We will schedule that next week- just so glad to get this addressed finally- I feel terrible that he had to suffer with this all week though until we finally figured it out.
I ran into an old friend Deborah at Target today and it was so great to see her. I worked with her at Life Resource years ago- she was the case management nurse and I was one of the case managers/social workers on the same team- she is so sweet. I told her about Lucas and showed her pictures of course and she said to be hopeful that he will progress and get better. I told her I had faith and I will be in touch. Speaking of which, I am meeting 3 old friends tomorrow for lunch- I am so excited! I have seen one girl a few times since school days, but the others I have not seen in about 20 years! I am looking forward to reconnecting with them. I am also going to my ex mother in laws tomorrow to see my niece's new baby girl- I am looking forward to that as well.
So happy my sweet boyfriend got to see his neurologist this week- he has been having a lot of headaches so I was glad he adjusted his medications. I went with him to Houston for the appointment and we had a great day together. He makes me laugh everyday- I love him so much..........anyway enough mushy stuff :) I also attended a FEAT meeting (Families for Effective Autism Treatment) last night and learned about new ways to communicate with Lucas better- I will try them out when he is feeling better. Oh well off to bed- busy weekend.....

What a day!!!!
We go home and he is something else.........lots of demands to go swing- lots of bossing me around- maybe he needs military school rather than autism school !?!?! He was horrible- not in the I feel bad kind of way but in the RTS (Rotten Tater Syndrome) kind of way- there is a difference. As long as he got his way- he was golden- as soon as I said No- he threw a fit... urg!!! So we swing, literally, about 15-20 different times today- I lost count. In between I tried to get dressed to go to Lamar- I had an appointment for 330 to meet with the head of the education department to discuss how many hours I will need to re-enroll and get my diagnostician's certificate. Well we head to daddy's house so he can watch him while I go to Lamar- and they call and tell me I will have to reschedule the appointment.........again urg!!!! I go ahead and go to Lamar and apply for graduate school and get information for student loan applications. It is all online now- the last time I went to Lamar it was all on paper. It looks like I will have to attend about 27-30 hours at Lamar to do this....... again urg!!! So not a wasted trip- Lucas gave daddy grief too- he agrees that it is RTS......... we shall see.
I did get Waya to run a pee/poop sample to the ped's office to get it checked- so we shall see in a couple of days whether it is really anything or not. I sure hope this rebellious/ RTS phase passes soon- I would really rather stay in the free world and raise my child than to go to jail :)
On top of all of this today I get a letter explaining that Lucas has 3 unexcused absenses and I need to show "documentation" for why he missed. I give a dr.'s note each time he misses, so I dunno- I will meet with principle Friday about this one......... again urg! Hopefully tomorrow will be better...............

Lukey fussy = mommy fussy :( ..................
Just an off day? A case of the "I don't wannas"........ don't know- it is days like this I wish he could tell me what is making him so sad :( I hate to take him to the dr everytime he is like this- but I never know if he is sick or just acting 4..........but if he keeps it up back to the dr we will go.......

Thank God my child is autistic :) .................
We went bowling after therapy- we went to Crossroad's in Beaumont and Lucas and I both played two games. I won both of course, but only because we had the gutter blockers up :) He had fun and only ran off a couple of times.... not too bad for an hour at the bowling alley. It was a fun outing and oh how he loves those balls, pins, numbers- all of it is exciting!
I am excited about something myself! I am having lunch this weekend with some of my old buddies from junior high- well actually I have known these folks since elementary school but haven't seen them in years! I have bumped into my friend Deanna here and there but not spent any quality time with her in God only knows how long......so I am looking forward to it very much. Not sure who all is going yet, I think 3-4 of us so far. It should be fun.

The love we have for our kids has no limits...........
already have................ ready for this........... 211 college hours completed!!! Shit I could about be 1/2 through med school huh???? Well I am going to go back and possibly take up to 36 more!!!!! I know I have officially lost my mind- I am hoping and praying it will not be this many- but it could be. Oh well- no internship required so I am not going to stress it. I would take about 6 hours per semester and finish in about a year and a half so not too bad huh? Crazy talk! I think I may be able to start in June or so if I get registered/admitted by April.
Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words- it means so much to be loved and surrounded by such wonderful, caring, and understanding people. I am so blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life that love Lucas and I unconditionally. I love you all very, very much.
With a sweet face like the one on my boy- how could I say no to something that will make both of our lives better? I will do anything I have to do to ensure that my boy is with me as much as possible after school and in the summer- and I know that this is a good decision for me and for Lucas- so I am very happy and excited about it. I will keep you all posted. I will also keep you posted about the MDO situation- I think I may have some other options for the MDO in the summer- it may not be hopeless afterall :) My new motto, I stole from my friend LeeAnn- is :
Leap and the net will appear.............................. that one is perfect, huh? Good motto to live by.

Reality check........slap in the face= change in future plans..
I have for the past 2 summers placed Lucas in a local Mother's Day Out program that he attended in June and July with other kids his age that are "normal" in their development. I assumed he would attend there again this year- but I was sadly mistaken. I called to reserve a spot for him at this church and the director hated to, but sadly informed me that he needed to be more caught up with his peers to be able to attend. He will be 4.5 years old and he would need to be potty trained, self sufficient in eating and other self care skills with little help, be able to follow directions, etc.................. none of which he can do alone. He needs almost constant 1:1 care to complete these simplest of tasks and he simply takes too much time away from the remainder of the class. I was a little perturbed at her for not telling me this last summer when he attended there- but not at her- she is doing her job and she wants what is best for the kids, Lucas, and her staff.
To be honest, I knew it would be harder to find summer care for him as he aged, but never did I think he would simply not be admitted into a normal childcare program due to his high demands. What a reality check for me............... my son is autistic, and NEVER again will I be able to place him in a "normal" environment unless some miracle happens and he simply starts acting less autistic. Well realistically I know that is NOT going to happen.............. so I cried my eyes out for an hour after I was declined admission to the MDO program and I went to talk to my mother sobbing this sad tale. Well yes I was crushed, yes I was very disappointed and sad for my sweet son- at what a hard life lies ahead of him, lies ahead for me- all of it was too much.
BUT, I do believe all things happen for a reason. I have been seeing this autism in him since 12 months of age, and now at 4 is is easier to see than ever before. Yes he has made a lot of progress, yes is is finally starting to talk, yes is is a joy and a ball of sunshine- everyone loves Lucas. Yet as much as I love him- I worry as any mother would. I worry if he will live with me for his entire life? Will I have to institutionalize him? Will he be so much bigger than I that I can't handle him? Will he ever go to normal classes? Forget about college or marriage- I don't think those are possible. With all that said, up until today his father felt the opposite from me- of course he will marry, attend college, drive, date- all the things boys do. Well today I am sad yet glad to inform you, his father FINALLY is starting to see what he has been in denial about all these 3 years since he was diagnosed with autism. NO it is not going away, NO it is not something he will outgrow, NO he will NOT catch up................ NO,NO NO! He called me a pessimist- I called it reality............. maybe it took hearing it from a third party to convince him this is our future and our reality with our precious little man.
His dad attended his ABA therapy appointment with me yesterday and Lucas did horrible. He was distracted the entire hour, not interested in the toys or candy he was working towards- he was in what I call "Lukey land" and there was no chance of us getting in. He is happiest there- he retreats there very very very often- like 23 .5 hours a day :) It is a constant struggle to get him back to our world and follow commands and complete tasks. His father FINALLY saw that. We talked a long time about Lucas' future, our fears, and concerns about it- it was so nice to finally have him on the same page as I with this.
All of this said I am terrified for the future- and I know that I will most likely NEVER be able to use after school care for normal kiddos so that I can return to work FT- so my solution- I am going to try to go back to college to get some sort of degree in education. I know am I nuts.......... maybe- but I have a flexible job and supportive family who will help me with Lucas so that I can do this while I continue to work part time and revolve my schedule around Lucas. If I work in the schools, I can work the same schedule as Lucas attends school and therefore still be very involved in his life. Am I crazy about going to college again after completing 2 degrees? Hell no- but for my boy I will do anything! I will keep you posted..............

Thank God it is Monday!
Lucas had a great day at school and he also did fairly well with Pam his in home therapist after school. She will be having her baby in a few short weeks and I know we will miss her while she is on maternity leave. She has been great with him and she always gives me great ideas to try and help me problem solve with him. She will work with him again in the new school year most likely in August or so, but until then I am on my own at home I guess.
I went to check out some local child care facilities today for Lucas............ ugh!!!!! They are beyond scary! I guess we will do Mother's Day Out (MDO) again this summer mixed with ABA therapy and school. The school district really disappointed me as to what they offered last summer- unsure if it was sparse because of teacher/staff changes or what- but I hope it is a little more structured this summer. He needs the structure and so do I - it makes us both happy. But unfortunately when you have an autistic 4 year old who can't tell you when he is hungry, tired, thirsty, hurt, etc. you can't stick him in a regular day care setting with 18+ kids to one teacher- Lucas would slip through the cracks for sure in that setting. I will most likely send him back to Westgate Baptist MDO again this summer- he did great there the past 2 years and I guess I will just have to do that and intermix it with more ABA than usual to keep him busy. At least the MDO classes have about 1/2 the kids in the room than regular day care does. I have to do what is best for Lukey man- he is my #1 guy ya know :) I would do anything for him.

Lucas the parrot man!
Well I discovered the joy of breathing treatments today! I was coughing so bad last night I know my darling boyfriend was sure I would die right on his couch!!! I felt like I might............ so I called the dr. this morning to ask if I could use breathing treatments and they were going to call it in and my mom informed me that she had some left over from her last round of bronchitis- thanks mom!!!!! I used it a few times today and feel MUCH better tonight- I think if I manage to take it easy this weekend I will be better to return back to work and everything else in my life by Monday I hope :) Man it has been a lousy week- I never stay in bed as much as I have the past few days- I know I am ill when all I want to do is sleep and let my house go to hell.

Another shitty day..............
Overall I think Lucas is feeling better- he still has a runny nose and a little cough but mostly just snotty- the tummy trouble I think was from the antibiotic he is on. I am on one too and I think sometimes they make you feel worse than the original ailment! Thankfully Lucas is going to his dad's tonight so I can get some much needed R and R.................

I hate tax season!!!
Well on top of all of that lovely news I have bronchitis and feel like crappolla- Lucas is feeling better though so I am glad one of us in on the mend- he and I both are on so much medication we are both in a medicine fog- between the antibiotics, decongestants, and cough meds we are a fine pair- I hope the rest of this week goes better...........

(S)not as snotty as yesterday..............but still snotty
Now tomorrow I need to go to the doctor myself as I have this crap too and I have had it off and on for about a month- or according to my wonderful loving boyfriend- a year :) He says all the time I escaped from the TB ward and I need to go ahead and finish hacking up a lung! I know- I need to address all of this- I will tomorrow hopefully at the dr. appt.
Lucas was in a spinning mood today- he spun around this evening until he got so dizzy he fell down and hit his head on the couch- after he almost busted it on the end table I made him stop- but boy it was funny watching him make himself dizzy and trying to walk- that boy- never a dull moment.

Snotty Sunday..........
Almost burned the house down this afternoon making Parmesan spaghetti- I turned the water and milk on to boil and left the kitchen for just a few minutes........well it boiled over and there were flames shooting out from under the pot- scared the crap out of me!!!! What a mess- 3 of my smoke alarms went off and it was very loud- but good to see that they work! I ended up scrubbing my pot, the burner and the burner pan underneath it for an hour after I ate the darn noodles- NOTE to self- don't start cooking and come get on Facebook!
Facebook rocks by the way- if you are not on it- you must join! It is fun- I have reconnected with people I haven't seen in 20 years........ very neat. It is like myspace for grownups- not as kiddie- which is good for us older folks :) It is also very addicting- almost as much as ebay.......
